The Northern Region High School Oratorical Contest was held on February 20, 2021 at Rapidan Baptist Church in Madison, VA. This competition featured the first place winners from each District within the Northern Region, so competition was extremely strong. However, the 16th District Oratorical winner, Ms. Lauren Bradshaw represented us well as was declared the winner.
Lauren was sponsored by Manassas Post 10 and won the 16th District Oratorical held on January 24, 2021. Lauren is a Junior who is home schooled and was supported by Jenny Bradshaw. Lauren will now advance to the Department of Virginia competition which will be held at Post 284 in Colonial Heights, VA on March 6, 2021.
Lauren will be competing for the honor of best orator in the State in addition to a College Scholarship from the Department of Virginia. If Lauren wins the Department competition, she will automatically receive an additional College Scholarship from The American Legion National Headquarters.
Competitors were required to deliver a prepared oration in no fewer than eight minutes and no more than ten minutes. At the conclusion of the first round, an assigned topic discourse was chosen at random and competitors were given 5 minutes to prepare for the delivery of their oration. They were then required to deliver their impromptu oration in no fewer than three minutes and no more than five minutes.
We have the highest confidence in Lauren representing the Northern Region well and wish her all the best in the upcoming competition.
